  • Chav or Connoiseur?

    Sep 26, 2008 11:04 PM

There's a number of things which I quite like on certain cars, but I'm not sure if I'm just allowing the inner chav to come to the surface:

Nurburgring decals on rapid cars - the outline of the circuit, usually discreetly applied on the boot of something like an Evo VIII or an M3 CSL. Chav or Connoiseur? (just not on 1 litre Saxo's with stupid body kits)

46 - Rossi's race number - more often than not on a rear winscreen. This is pretty chavved up thinking about it...but the same question stands: Chav or Connoiseur?

    White cars...Chav or Connoiseur?

Nurburgring decals are quite small and sublte so may imply Connoiseur, though a bit of inner chav may lurk, but I guess if no-one had any inner chav left then no-one would buy STs or GTIs. I'd prefer to see one on a Saxo than one of those horrible bloody bodykits... Sure sign of overt Chav..

It's the bikers that wear the 46 leathers that I worry about..

My current car is white but was born long before it was fashionable and is a sod to keep clean (so i don't generally) , but Spec C, GTI, LP560 all look awesome in white so Connoiseur. When the SUV brigade latch on to it, any cool will evaporate...

Don't worry about the Inner Chav, it's a part of what makes you a petrol head...

The 'ring stickers (provided they are on the right car) are ok in my books just as long as the actual car has been there (so that counts my three out!)

46: Great Moto GP rider, and have alot of respect for Rossi, however thinking that 46 on a car is pretty pointless.

White: Awesome colour (seriously). My Forester is white, and 997 GT3s and Mk5 GTis are just fantastic in the colour.

Ring Stickers -  Chav.  Too many people put them on the car without having been there.  Used to be a sign of cool, not any more.

46 - Bikes, fair enough.  I agree with Penny9966 though on this one, on a car, pointeless.

White - Depends on the car.  White is the base colour for most race vehicles, so it shows a sense of purity.  Start bunging it on any old Audi or SUV, then it will loose its cool.

Any more for any more? There seems to be more and more upmarket car mods appearing on the road...

I don't think I'd have a Clio Cup in any other colour other than white. It looks fantastic. Incidentally, white on an SUV is actually quite a practical colour: - if you do any off-roading in one (which most owners won't do anyway) white is a good colour to hide scratches. In fact, quite handy for any car, particularly if you live in town.

My current car is white bought a couple of months ago.before that I had a black car and I can tell you it was scratched within weeks. Not big scratches but little scratches. So I agree white is great at covering up scratches.I think if its done right with colour coded everything with matte black grille and possibly wheels it looks great. But non colour coded door handles and bumpers definately a no no.

As for the other stuff I think it depends on the car its on.Its chav if its on anything old thats about 1 litre and has a crappy body kit on it .Or anything thats been made to look like the sporty version as in the basic version of the impreza with the body kit or the honda civic type S which is just advertising to people that you havent got a clue .

My current car is black and is scratched to buggery. Definitely white for my next car (if it's the right car).

My white car is also scratched to buggery and lightly coated in tar -spots and "tree excrement" ... Arm yourself with T-Cut or admire your car's lived-in look but I don't think I could go quite as far as recommending white as a colour... Unless it's a Spec C, LP560 or Clio Cup or similar and the additional cleaning would merit itself...

    Gregory,

How about Audi A4's in white?

There's another 4 letter word beginning with C that I can think of that covers this. Actually, there's 2 and they both describe one's love organs both male and female.

    Hahahaha - no hard feelings.

Well, I guess it's better to be thought a "C@*&" than to open ones mouth and confirm the suspicions...

    None on my part.

And your words are well chosen, driving a white A4 tells us everything.

Have a good day, don't tailgate and make sure your shirts cuffs are positioned to make your Breitling visable.
