  • Hayabusa engined mini

    Sep 24, 2008 3:43 PM

I spotted an advert for a 1984 mini mayfair completely rebuilt using new parts. The killer being a 160 BHP bike engine. So cool. However I have since been kept up at night trying to work out how much it cost to build and how big a bath this fella took when he sold 180 miles after completion. Take a look http://www.kitcar-trader.co.uk/detail.php?siteid=802&show_still=1 wher he admits that he did it to prove that he could. What a man (and I wonder if he has told the wifre?). I wonder how it goes and handles. Thought to ask the owner but I cannot abide time wasters so held off asking. Be fun to have it road tested by Sutcliffe but probably more EVO than Autocar.

He probably hasn't got a wife!

Well, the theory is that the engine shouldn't be that much different in weight compared to the original unit (if not a bit lighter), so if the suspension is standard then it will still be pretty good.  As for the performance, there is another reference point for this - the Hyabusa engined smart.  That was quick. I am sure there must be some footage of that on youtube.
