For Handling, brakes, pretty quick but...
AgainstNot quite quick enough, interior trim quality
The current Fiesta has managed so far without a sporty variant, but it has a long performance heritage. Ford’s Special Vehicle Engineering division developed the first XR2 back in 1981 by adding stiffer suspension and a 83bhp 1.6-litre CVH engine to the Mk1 Fiesta. Like today’s STs, XR Fiestas and Escorts were warm hatches, the real heat reserved for RS models. The XR2 grew to 96bhp in 1984 and fuel injection added a further 12bhp in 1989, but the hottest Fiesta was the 133bhp RS Turbo of 1990. It stopped in ’93.
